USW, Slovenia, Protest and solidarity
Dear comrades!
0n 12 of May 2005 at 17:00 in Trbovlje (Zasavje region) will be organized a workers protest: "For raising workers rights and return of dignity". Protest is organized by Union of self-organized workers (SiSD/USW) and individual workers of Zasavje region. The main purpose of the protest beside exploitation in general, is alert on permanently growing unemployment and closing workplaces in region and in the whole country - which is permanent practice for ten years. The biggest problems are happening in clothing, leather, shoe and textile industry (in last two years 30 thousand people lost jobs). Second thing that we want to execute are capitalist manipulations with workers payments. Repeating practice is that companies don't pay the workers, one of the example; government and labor exchange institute support companies with problems, giving them money for the workers pays, but the leaders of the company pay the workers just for few months and the rest of the money disappear. Actual story is happening in "Tect-pro" company ("Tect-pro" workers are organizing the protest with us). Two years ago the shoe company "Peko" close the workplaces in Zasavje region, and lot of people lost their jobs. After that, self-organized workers make the protest, which we support. After the protest and media boom, government and labor exchange institute offer 1,5 million tolars (for workers payment for one year), to company that will employ them. "Tect-pro", glove-making factory, answered and employed ex-Peko workers. But till today the company paid the workers just tor the three months (last payment was in February 2005) and nothing else, although they work every day. This sampler is continuously repeating and we will fight it. So, we are calling you for solidarity. Join the manifestation or send a letter of support which we can read on the manifestation.
